Meet Your Coach

Garry Carlin

More than twenty-three years ago, gambling controlled my life.

Like many people experiencing gambling-related harm, I hid what was really happening. Behind the scenes I was living with stress, anxiety, guilt and the constant cycle of chasing losses while promising myself each time would be the last.

Eventually, I reached a point where I knew something had to change.

Recovery transformed my life. It gave me far more than freedom from gambling—it restored my confidence, strengthened my relationships, brought financial stability and gave me a future I never believed was possible.

Today, I have been free from gambling for over twenty-three years.

That lived experience is the foundation of GWC Gambling Harms Recovery Coaching. By combining my own recovery journey with professional qualifications in gambling counselling, peer support and safeguarding, I provide compassionate, confidential one-to-one coaching for people looking to rebuild their lives.

I know how difficult it can be to ask for help because I’ve been there myself. But I also know that recovery is possible.

If you’re ready to take that first step, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.

Professional Qualification

At GWC Gambling Harms Recovery Coaching, I believe effective support is built on both lived experience and professional knowledge.

Having been free from gambling for more than twenty-three years, I understand the realities of addiction and recovery from personal experience. Alongside this, I have completed recognised professional training to ensure that every client receives safe, ethical and informed support.

Diploma in Gambling Counselling - Distinction

This qualification provides specialist knowledge of gambling-related harm, recovery models, communication skills and the psychological impact of gambling addiction.

It enables me to better understand the challenges clients face and to provide informed, compassionate support throughout their recovery journey.

City & Guilds Peer Aid Gambling Support

This qualification focuses on supporting people affected by gambling harm through lived experience, active listening, effective communication and recovery-focused guidance.

It strengthens my ability to encourage, motivate and empower clients while helping them develop practical strategies for long-term recovery.
